I didn't believe this would happen, honestly.
But we did it.

We are back in the Google Play Store with the latest version of Subsurface-mobile. Which of course has way more changes than the release notes panel will allow me to put in. But hopefully people will be happy with it.

Everyone who has sideloaded the app for the last couple of years, you should be able to upgrade to the store version as they use the same keys - but sometimes Android is weird about switching between store apps and sideloaded apps.

Either way, the Play Store integrates with the regular updates, so it may be convenient for some to switch back - but we will of course continue to update the sideload apps as well.

Wow, big achievement but how? did they just allow this through for a change or did you have to jump through more of their hoops?

Congrats
Jason

That's the result of the 150+ commit pull request that was merged this week and that brought the mobile app to Qt 6. That allowed us to address all three of the technical show stoppers that prevented compliance.

It took about three months of work to get all of this sorted out, with significant help from Berthold, Michael, and a few others.

But yeah, we are back in good standing - I signed the remaining legal agreements and made the disclosures that they were asking for. I hired a lawyer to review one of them that read to me as if I might end up being personally liable...

Beta testers received the update yesterday, people not signed up for the beta (about 97% of our 'active' users still using the Play Store version, according to Google) received the update over the last hour.

I got an update yesterday to "version 6.0.5580-patch.10.local", which says it's the April 8 release. But sometime google stuff just takes a while

GDB has a 'break' feature; why doesn't it have 'fix' too?

Yeah, that's actually 6.0.5581 (no idea why it ended up with a messed up version) -- and that's the version that became the production version today.
I try really hard to always push to beta / TestFlight first and then just promote that to production. That's not always possible, but it's the desired workflow from my point of view.

Hi all.

Just a note: The app versions released to the Google Play store are for the 'current' release channel only - even those in the 'Beta' channel.
We currently do a release in this channel every 1 to 2 months.

If you want to stay on the version with the latest features but less testing, please keep using the APK version available from https://subsurface-divelog.org/latest-release/ (or https://github.com/subsurface/nightly-builds/releases).

Doing this, and reporting bugs if you find them, greatly helps us find and remove issues before they hit the rest of the user base.

This approach even supports automated updates through Obtainium, as documented here: https://subsurface-divelog.org/latest-release/

Ngā mihi
