Password Problems

A couple of months ago Safari warned me that the password I was using for Subsurface had been compromised. So, I let Safari choose a new one. I saved that password in the Keychain. It worked fine with Subsurface on my old iMac.

Now I have a new MacBook Air. I downloaded the Mac Subsurface app and entered the username (my dot MAC email address) and the password saved in the KeyChain.

Subsurface says: 'incorrect password.

OK, so reset the password again. After doing so I get a two word web page that says:
"Password updated". I make sure the password is in the Keychain.

I copy and paste that new password in Subsurface preferences and it still says that the password is incorrect.

So, I go to an old iMac and copy and paste the new password from the Keychain into Subsurface and it says "credential verified" (?).

So, how come the newly generated password works on an old iMac but not on the relatively new MBA?

I am able to log on to and use the web based Subsurface Cloud interface using the Username and Password in the Keychain from the MBA.

When I look at ~//Library/Preferences/org.hohndel.subsurface.Subsurface.plist it has the correct user name and password.:

<key>CloudStorage.cloud_verification_status</key>
<integer>1</integer>
<key>CloudStorage.email</key>
<string>myn...@mac.com</string>
<key>CloudStorage.email_encoded</key>
<string>myn...@mac.com</string>
<key>CloudStorage.password</key>
<string>MyPassword</string>

For stupid and ancient reasons, Subsurface does very poorly with passwords that contain anything but letters (upper and lower case) and numbers.
My guess is that your password contains special characters and that's why things fail.

Well, that’s interesting but it doesn’t explain why that same password works fine with Subsurface on a 2019 iMac. But, I’ll try a different one.
