Hi,
I'm a new user of the subsurface, signed up with an email account of eunju...@hotmail.co.kr which was successfully verified and remains well logged in when using the mobile app, seems like it's syncing with the cloud. However, when I tried to access the cloud storage using desktop program or webpage, I'm having difficulty with 'Failure taking cloud storage online' and 'Not Found, The requested URL was not found on this server. Apache/2.4.41 (Ubuntu) Server at cloud.subsurface-divelog.org Port 443' respectively. Could you help me fixing this? Thanks!

Kind regards,
Angela

I think there are 2 cloud storage servers, the desktop software tries to see which one you are nearest to so as to direct you to what should be the most suitable/appropriate whereas the mobile app looks like this doesn’t have this feature meaning it’s hard coded to one of the cloud servers. This looks like it’s just some temporary disruption at Dirk’s end, please be patient whilst he looks into this, he’s often travelling or busy with other things.

Jason

Generally the best way to get help on things like this is to simply send email to me (dirk at hohndel dot org). I run the backend services and no one else can really do anything about your issues.

From your description I'm guessing that something went wrong with the initial cloud setup and that you never actually successfully stored anything to the cloud. I re-ran the initialization phase of the account setup for your account and would like you to try once again to manually save to the cloud to see if this works. After that attempt check the status text below your email address in the menu slide-out in the local app. It should indicated that your data are synced to the cloud.

A quick solution may hinge on your ability to give me information that actually allows me to even look at things.
For example, tell me which email address the account was set up with - it wasn't the address you used for this missive

Hey Jason,

Just for clarification -- both apps now use geo location to try and find the "better" server to contact - and both fall back to try the other one if that doesn't work.

There are a few subtle patterns in the problem reports that I'm learning to spot. When people appear to get 404 style errors that's almost always an indication that the repo initialization failed for some reason. I still haven't figured out how that happens - it's maybe one every couple hundred accounts on average, but it usually happens in "clumps", so a few at a time - and then not at all for weeks. Which makes it so painfully hard to debug this :(

In the meantime, the only thing that will work is send me an email from the affected account and (assuming I have access to a computer and didn't just bring my phone) I can usually easily verify that the account is valid and re-run the initialization phase.

Thanks as always for your willingness to jump in and help :)

/D

Hi Dirk, thanks for answering!

Aaah, you use google groups that's why it got sent from the wrong email address.

I'm registered with da...@davlar.se!

I'm able to log on from my Android but I don't know if it syncs.

I'm also as it seems able to log on from windows, if I enter a wrong password it complains, but I can't get cloud storage online and I can't tell if it syncs.

My 2 logfiles are emptly with a file size of 0 so I can't tell where it goes astray.

JB2Cool wrote in an answer that you have 2 cloud servers and that it might be the problem. Is this so?

Med vänlig hälsning, Best Regards,

/David
