Hey all, I've sketched on some UI changes on the desktop app and would love to know what you think. See the images below (sorry that they are sized so awkwardly)

1. making the unused stars in dive ratings smaller and grayed out, makes it less cluttered
2. when no dive is selected, make the logo a bit smaller and remove the white background it had in darkmode
3. change the flag on dive locations to vector graphics (does not look pixelated, better on bigger screens)
4. this one is more hypothetical, but would anyone see the use in being able to change the dive flag on the map to the alpha flag in the settings?

Hi Jari,

Thanks for sending these over.

(1) I love the change for the unused stars. That looks much cleaner.
(2) I may be biased (since I think I implemented that?) but I actually prefer the big logo. Or to say it differently - the logo in your alternative is way too small for my liking. I think something more in the middle between those two might make sense. The explanatory text certainly is not a bad idea.
(3) I like the vector graphics dive flag
(4) having the different dive flags as an option may seem like a small change, but it's actually quite significant. This adds UI overhead and more importantly it changes internal data structure and both XML and git storage formats. These kinds of changes should only be made for a "very good cause" - and since out of about 35k users you are the first one to ever suggest that this was useful, I'm not convinced that this is worth the cost.

So my responses would be YES, maybe? with some changes?, YES, NO.

Others, please chime in!

Thanks again for your work on making our UI better!

/D

1+3. happy to hear that :)
2. I have another suggestion as a middle ground, keeping it big, but the diver is cut out. So it doesn't look like a very big icon, rather an image of a diver, with the text somewhere near it if that's useful. The wave can even be kept, or just a simple white/black diver depending on theme

4. just to mention what I wrote in the other comment, the idea is that one could mark them according to one's own system on the map. Dives from boat/from land etc, once it's done adding new flags is not a big change. Flag with star above for "favorite" or for an empty site marked as "want to go". Or imagine multiple people discussing dives on the map on a big screen. There's already notes for dive sites, so getting visual tagging on the map could be neat too tying in with that. I guess sometimes you don't know you need something before you have it, even for 35k users ;)

Bonsoir tous

Definite fan of suggestions 1 and 3.
I'll abstain from the others.
