Hi Subsurface folks:

I spent some time trying to import .xml files that I exported from the Suunto DM5 program on Windows 10.  I've tried this from three Windows 10 machines and also from a Linux Ubuntu machine, and get the exact same behavior all four times.  When I go to "import log files" and choose the .xml file, the program just returns to the main Subsurface all-view window, completely empty, with nothing changed as far as I can see, and no error message.  I've attached one .xml file as exported from Suunto DM5 that does not import.

My ultimate goal is to convert to .csv format, with one line per depth/time reading.

Many thanks for any help you can provide.

Subsurface version: 4.7.7
Operating system: both Ubuntu (16.04 LTS 64 bit) and the latest Windows 10 (1709 x64 KB4088776) on multiple machines
Dive computer: Suunto DM5 1.2.57.9

I suggest you use DM5 database directly to import to Subsurface. This will import more details than the XML import from DM5 would if it happened to work. The procedure to grabbing the DB is described in our user manual https://subsurface-divelog.org/documentation/subsurface-4-user-manual/#S_ImportingDivesSuunto

Thanks Miika, I will try this from now on.  Unfortunately the .xml files I have are from a watch that I no longer have, so this is not a possibility for these.  I have 10 .xml files that look good with the correct data.  Now trying to convert them to .csv using UNIX stream editor.

We used to handle Suunto XML files directly and natively since that
was the source of some of my own data, but that was back at the very
beginning of subsurface, and in the days of DM3 (iirc).

The new Suunto XML looks rather radically different, and also seems to
contain some extended the sample data as a "SampleBlob".

I'll see if I have some time this week to look at your XML file. It's
quiet on the kernel side, but it's spring break so I'm off with my
family and also trying to get some diving done.

I'm hoping somebody can point me in the right direction (Suunto DM5 support group).  There's nothing wrong with the Subsurface Application, in fact it's what's working perfectly, but there seems to be a flaw in Suunto's DM5 application and Suunto's not responding.

I have two exact Suunto Cobras, and in some cases when I upload the dive data to DM5 the depths of some dives are WAAAY off.  It's sort of hard to go to 180 feet when the bottom was at 70 feet!.  If I upload the dives to Subsurface all is well, 100% accurate.  If I look at the dive profiles for those dives on the Cobra, they're spot-on too, so I'm wondering if I'm the only person who has seen this anomaly with DM5.

So, since Suunto isn't responding, so I thought I'd come here and ask before I deleted their application.
