Hi all

I really like the concept behind Substance Composer. I usually write my web and offline content in markdown, but most clients find it a bridge too far to use themselves. Composer could potentially replace having to give clients online WYSIWYG editors and so really help with content creation workflow. Then there's the possibility of using pandoc to convert to different formats, like LaTeX or asciidoc. Plus, having the document stored in structured json - awesome!

I spent a few hours with Composer yesterday writing the outline of a thesis proposal. Simultaneously I made notes about what I liked and didn't like in another Composer doc - including things I found unintuitive, hard to use, bugs, or lacking expected functionality. I'm sure you're aware of many/all of these, but I wanted to post them to this list too.

The url is http://composer.burningdog.co.za/using-composer/ (I've only recently added the A record so hopefully that url works for others too).

Feedback welcome :)

Regards
Roger

Thanks a lot for your thorough feedback, Roger! We will consider it for our next release (Beta 4) which will be ready soon, with many improvements such as switching to a more modern native app implementation (Github Atom Shell).

I’d like to invite you to post issues, so you can help us shape the next releases.

Also we’d be glad to help you with particular tasks (such as creating your thesis using substance + post processing the output). You should have a look at the Substance Compiler + Templates, which is our current output pipeline.

Compiler: https://github.com/substance/compiler (not available as a stand-alone tool atm) but could be embedded into workflows.

Cheers,
Michael
