Hey guys,

As the year is coming to an end it's time for us to elect Subspace executives for the coming year. The executives are responsible for ensuring the continuation of the club by recruiting, running events, and keeping up with Student Groups so that the paperwork is up to date. Benefits of being an executive include key access to the office, nearly unlimited and unchecked power (if you do it right), and possibly a discount card that gives you 10% off in a bunch of places. To elaborate on the unlimited power, executives can make any event an official Subspace event at will so can really organize any sort of activity that they think we should be doing. Also the title gives you +4 charisma. No seriously I did some studies.

Phase 1: Nominations (Today - 11:59PM Monday, April 4th)
From now to Monday, March 4th, any member may nominate any other member by sending a message to the mailing list stating who they wish to nominate and for what. A member who has been nominated must then send a message to the mailing list accepting their nomination and may also campaign as they choose to. Once you've confirmed that you really do want to run for a position you were nominated for you'll be considered a candidate and your name will go on the ballot. If you want to run for a position but can't think of someone to nominate you send me an email telling me why you'd like to run and why you think you'd be good for the job and I'll more than likely nominate you. I'm impartial in this matter and will happily nominate people even if I'm running for the position.

Phase 2: Campaigning & Voting (Tuesday April 5th - 11:59PM Monday, April 11th)
When nominations are complete a link will be sent out where club members will be able to vote online. The voting will be handled by someone other than myself if I choose to run, and likely even if I don't since I'm notoriously corrupt (Vote James!). At the weekly movie night on April 6th there will be an opportunity for candidates to speak to a significant portion of the club directly and for members to ask candidates questions. I really encourage any candidate who can make it to attend at least the start of the that movie night as it's likely the only face to face time you'll be able to get with the club. However, it's not a requirement for candidacy.

Phase 3: Passing of the torch (Tuesday April 12th)
Election results will be announced sometime on April 12th and executive powers will begin being transfered at the Movie Night on April 13th. Some powers will be retained by the former executive until the end of April to ensure that the paper work to have Subspace in the coming year is done but the majority will be transfered to the new group.

So to recap: If you want to run have someone nominate you on the mailing list and then accept the nomination. If you can, come to the movie night on April 6th and campaign/be campaigned at. Vote when that's set up.

The positions are:
President:
The responsibilities of the president are for the outside relations of the club, keeping the email list working, and making sure every thing keeps going. The penultimate goal of the president is that Subspace should exist in the year after them, and be prepared to exist in the year after that. All other goals, concerning the club, are secondary to continuation. The president has signing authority (need two signatures to use money). The President holds one of the two club discount cards.

Vice President:
The responsibilities of the vice president are to be the club liaison to the SU and other clubs. They are the ones who can organize inter-club events and who make sure we have the paper work done to be a club. The vice president has signing authority (need two signatures to use money). The Vice President holds the second of the two club discount cards.

Treasurer:
The responsibilities of the treasurer are to keep track of the money and make sure the club doesn't go broke. It's up to the treasurer to keep the (extremely simple) budget and make sure we have enough money to keep the office. If significant money (that is any money) is being spent they should know about it and be involved. The treasurer has signing authority (need two signatures to use money).

Extended Executive:
The extended executive are unique in that there are two such positions. The responsibilities of the extended executive are to help the other executives however they can and to hold events. Ideally each extended executive should hold an event at least once per month.

All executives have access to the office at any time.

Alright, so the nominations are now officially open. Good luck to everyone who is considering running!

Thanks for reading this obnoxiously long message,
James McNeice, Subspace President (for the moment)
