Good afternoon!
I am interested in using the subjectplus platform in its version 5, is it possible to download it?

I have seen that no updates have been released, will the project go ahead?

I remain attentive to your comments.
Regards

Hello,

Thanks for your interest in the new version of SubjectsPlus 5. We are currently using it in production this semester and having our subject librarians test it in a real world environment. We plan to roll out another instance for our medical campus next semester.

Currently, the code is not available for download, it is in a private repository. Before we can release it to the public we have to create an installer. The first iteration will involve an upgrade to an existing installation of version 4.6. The following iteration will be for a green field installation.

In regards to timeline, I cannot give you a concrete answer. There are numerous milestones that must be achieved before we can release it to the public, including security testing. I understand it's frustrating to wait, but our team is working as fast as we can to create a quality product that can be distributed.

Thanks for your interest and we'll keep you up to date,
Charles

Hello,

I'm sorry to hear you are experiencing issues with the layout breaking. Do you have any error logs that may help to reveal the root cause?

In terms of SubjectsPlus 5, it is currently being tested at the University of Miami. Before we can release the code we have to develop an installation and update script. We hope to have that ready by the end of this semester.

Thank you,
SubjectsPlus Dev Team

Dear all, I have a proposal to make, with my thanks as always to the creators of sp, who are obviously very busy. Let's create a new version ourselves. Our facilities are already on the verge of not supporting the php versions. What do you think? Best regards.

Dear SubjectsPlus Community

Thank you for your message and your continued interest in SubjectsPlus!

I have great news – we're actually very close to releasing the codebase as open source! We've been working toward this for some time, and we're nearly ready to make the repository public.

However, I want to be transparent about a few important considerations:

Current status:

  • The code will be available for the community to use and build upon
  • We're currently running PHP 8.1 in production and actively testing PHP 8.3 compatibility
  • We have database migrations for upgrading from existing versions, though these haven't been extensively tested across different environments yet
  • Please note that data cleanup will be required after the upgrade
  • We don't currently have a formal installation script for new deployments
  • At this time, our team won't be able to provide direct technical support

Deployment considerations: We host our instance on Azure using Web Apps for Containers. Every environment is different, so your installation and deployment approach will likely differ from ours based on your infrastructure and requirements.

Our hope: We see this as an opportunity for the community to participate in the project's development. If you or others are interested in contributing – whether that's testing migrations, developing installation procedures, updating for newer PHP versions, or other improvements – we would absolutely welcome that collaboration!

This could be a great chance for institutions facing similar PHP version constraints to work together on solutions. Once the repository is public, we can coordinate on issues and pull requests through GitHub.

Would this approach work for your institution? I'd be happy to notify you as soon as the repository is available.

Best regards,
SubjectsPlus Dev Team

Hello friends,

When I read here (https://subjectsplus.github.io/sp5-new-release.html) that SP 5 will be rebuilt from the ground up using modern tools: Symfony, API-Platform, Twig, React & MySQL, I understand that PHP will not disappear since Symfony is still the framework of choice. Thank you for elaborating on this, clarifying the extent of using React (UI) compared to php in sp 5.

Thanks,
Massoud AlShareef
