Aim and Scope
_____________

The VLDB Journal is a quarterly published journal dedicated to the publication
of scholary contributions to the advancement of information system architectu-
res, the reflection of technological impacts, and the development of novel
applications. It presents significant advances in the design, implementation,
and evaluation of information systems.

Status and Forthcoming Issues
_____________________________

The first issue of the journal has a tentative publication date in the first
half of 1992. The following schedule for the forthcoming four years may be
subject to modification:

Issue 2 General DBS Topics and Complex Object DBs
Issue 3 Parallelism in DBS Issue 10 General DBS Topics
Issue 4 General DBS Topics Issue 11 Active Database Systems
Issue 5 Automatic DB Tuning Issue 12 General DBS Topics
and Load Balancing Issue 13 Multiprocessor DB Systems
Issue 6 General DBS Topics Issue 14 General DBS Topics
Issue 7 Deductive Database Issue 15 Database Programming Language
Systems Prototypes Systems
Issue 8 General DBS Topics Issue 16 General DBS Topics

While the general issues will be devoted to all system aspects of databases,
the special issues should give a good overview over a field by combining se-
veral related papers into one issue also including surveys or tutorials.
Authors having a significant contribution to a specific subject are encouraged
to submit it as soon as possible. Depending on the time schedule, the authors'
preferences and based on the comments of the referees, a decision will be made
whether the contribution will be included in a special or a general issue. All
papers will be thoroughly and professionally reviewed. Invited papers, surveys
and tutorials will be clearly marked as such.

Submittal Procedure
___________________

Papers must be written in English, double-spaced and type-written on one side
of each page. Six copies of each paper must be submitted to one of the two
Editors-in-Chief. Please contact one of the Editors-in-Chief for further
information.

Subscription
____________

For individuals, the annual subscription rate for four issues of the VLDB
Journal is US $24. For libraries and organizations, the annual rate is US $96.

if not issued from a US bank), to:
