The Irish government has included the new city for the west in the National Spatial Strategy. This new city will alleviate the chronic congestion, long traffic jams, housing crisis and over-crowding in Dublin and the population drain from the west of Ireland. There are plans to build a "Silicon Valley" around this new city which would benefit economically depressed counties in the west of Ireland.
