It is probably just because Saturday is a better day to celebrate than Tuesday... but just a guess.... :)

Any particular reasons why SIA could not hold the event on the actual Republic Day, but considers it fit to 'celebrate' it on Mahatma's death anniversary instead?

Dear Harshit,

There is a long tradition in the US of celebrating Indian festivals on weekends, rather than the actual date of the festival. This gives more people an opportunity to participate in the celebrations, creating a stronger sense of community. That is SIA's primary purpose.

Celebrating Republic day on the Mahatma's death anniversary will serve as a humble reminder of the epic sacrifices that led to the formation of the republic . We thought this was apt and believe this will add solemnity to the event.

For these reasons, we chose to organize our celebrations on the 30th. You are cordially invited to join us.

Best,
Kapeesh Saraf
(on behalf of SIA)
