In the fast-growing market for high-speed broadband access, Terayon
Communication Systems stands out. Terayon has developed its own technology
from the ground up, and is delivering a cable modem system that presents cable
operators with a highly economic approach to broadband access. Terayon’s
robust S-CDMA-based cable modems are the first to work over any type of cable
system—from all-coaxial to hybrid fiber/coax (HFC) cable networks. This gives
cable operators the flexibility to deploy data services today, avoiding costly
and time-consuming system upgrades. In addition, Terayon’s modems provide
guaranteed data rates, supporting not only residential Internet access, but
also higher revenue commercial services for business and telecommuting.

What challenges lie ahead in delivering broadband access on a wide scale, what
are the objectives, and how will they get there? What role will cutting-edge
technology play against a broad array of fierce competition, both from within
the cable industry as well as from DSL, satellite, and wireless? Terayon
Communication Systems is privately held, financed by investments from Cisco
Systems and Sumitomo Corporation and four venture capital firms led by Sequoia Capital.
