Speed can simplify the user experience by replacing dialogs, menus, and
command line interfaces with direct manipulation. The goal of this exploration
was to provide a satisfying user experience in an algebra system for
computer-illiterate users who hate math.
The system can perform tasks that have traditionally required quite complex
command line interfaces. The user interface is live, active, and interactive,
and most of all, simple both visually and functionally. There are few
menu items and dialogs. Most interaction is through direct manipulation
grasping with the mouse and provides immediate feedback.
During this presentation, Ron Avitzur will demonstrate his graphing
calculator desk accessory, which is being shipped with every new Power
Macintosh.
