Dear All,

A quick question or two, feedback much appreciated :) --

- Have you heard of the phrase 'Contraction & Convergence'?
- Do you know what it describes?
- If so... Do you think that anyone in your uni besides yourselves has heard of it, and understands it?

I ask because myself and a friend are considering running an awareness-raising campaign about this concept, and are testing the waters to see what level of knowledge already exists.

If you have nae clue as to what Contraction & Convergence means, check out the wikpedia article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contraction_and_Convergence ) or follow it up here: http://www.gci.org.uk
...But first, please! Don't be shy. Tell me What You Know (or Do Not Know)...

Many thanks in advance,
Guy Shrubsole

Yes, I do have a good understanding of it, mainly because I've been to events where Mayer Hillman has spoken.  He is a fantastic, inspirational speaker and will be speaking in Edinburgh at one of the Stop Climate Chaos series of events about C&C and personal carbon rationing.  Well worth going to.

See www.stopclimatechaosscotland.org/eventspage.php?id=32

It would be great to raise more awareness of it, but perhaps it's better to concentrate to start with on climate change in general and the aims of Stop Climate Chaos; people at least feel that they can DO something with S.C.C. and Friends of the Earth's Big Ask campaign (i.e. write to the PM or their MP) - whereas learning about C&C is perhaps less empowering in terms of being able to take political action.

If you're interested in Contraction and Covergence, email Aubrey Meyer at the Global Commons Institute. He's the man who invented the concept, and he does a very interested presentation.
