Has anyone taken part in Cyclescheme, a tax-free bike scheme?
www.cyclescheme.co.uk

Durham University is doing due diligence on getting involved, several
people in the University are rather sceptical about it, implying it's
too good to be true.
So if anyone has any experience with Cyclescheme, good or bad?
Please get in touch.

Cheers,

At the University of Westminster I beleive we run a similar scheme.

Althought they may run under different names, they are all pretty much
the same thing; rebranded version of the Governments' Green Transport
Scheme, to make it easier for employers to get their staff on their
bikes.

Basically, the university makes a loan to the employee, to buy a bike
upfront, at a discounted price, then the uni gets the money back by
deducting the loan payments form the employee's salary, like how our
student loans get paid out of our paychecks before we even see the
money.

The employer saves money, because paying the staff member the lower
salary means that they pay less tax and national insurance that that
staff member for the year. Savings made end up being passed on to the
employee. This online cycling shop has more about it.

It's a good scheme!
