BASES Challenge Kickoff is Today!
Monday, January 19 | Stanford - Paul Brest Hall | 6 PM
BASES Challenge is here! Come learn more at our demo-day event with a keynote address by Michael Baum (founder of Founder.org). Also present will be past Challenge participants as well as some of our sponsors.
Event Details
The kickoff will be held in Paul Brest Hall in Stanford University. Parking is available at the Wilbur Parking Lot (free after 4pm) or Parking Structure 6 (pay per space), which is underneath the Wilbur lot. The event will begin at 6pm and end at 8pm, so please come early enough (anytime after 5pm) to provide yourself with enough time to set up. The tentative schedule is below.

Shah Selbe, Explorer for National Geographic Society, Speaking at ETL
Wednesday, January 21 | Stanford - NVIDIA | 4:30 PM
Shah Selbe is a National Geographic Explorer, spacecraft propulsion engineer, ocean conservation technologist and the Southern California region representative of Engineers Without Borders. For an independent graduate study program at Stanford with the university's Center for Ocean Solutions, Selbe created FishNET, a platform approach harnessing technology to detect and track illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing worldwide. At Boeing Space and Intelligence Systems, he works as a satellite propulsion systems engineer. On behalf of Engineers Without Borders, Selbe has built homes in Mexico, solar energy projects in Mali, water distribution systems in Malawi, and a rainwater catch system in Tanzania that lets students spend time in school instead of fetching water.

About European ETL
Learn about the startup and venture capital scene in Europe; meet leading European founders and investors. This course provides rare exposure to leading startups, entrepreneurs and venture funds from Western, Eastern, Nordic and Mediterranean Europe. Students will also learn about the key differences in startup and innovation ecosystems between Europe and Silicon Valley.
The course will be taught during Winter Quarter for 1 unit. It will take place on Mondays from 4:30-5:45 pm at Hewlett 201. Offered by the Dept of Mechanical Engineering, ME421 is open to grads and undergrads, no pre-requisites, S/NC grading.

Product design is described as a whole process with many different factors that go into the design. From concept to completion, an idea evolves through a life cycle of UX/UI designers, graphic/visual designers, user researchers, data analysts, and prototypers to name a few. As we see day to day, current trends of messaging, virtual reality, all things “smart”, and data storage are consistently changing.
From hardware to software, and all of the components necessary for a product design, Tech in Motion Silicon Valley will be taking a deeper look into all forms of design.

TreeHacks is Stanford's national hackathon.
On February 20th, BASES is bringing the most talented programmers, designers, tinkerers and creators to Silicon Valley. Join your peers for 36 hours of bringing crazy ideas to life. You take care of creating. We'll take care of you.
All current university students are welcome to apply to TreeHacks. High school students are welcome if they are going to be 18 or older by February 20th, 2015. Applicants will be chosen based on prior work (personal projects, previous hacks, stuff made for an internship, cool classwork, and so on) and their interest in TreeHacks.
The deadline to apply for California-based hackers is January 25th. Apply here. Applications are now closed for outside-California hackers.

Mayfield Fellows Program - Applications Due Monday, Feb 2, 2014
The Stanford Technology Ventures Program is accepting applications for the 20th class of the Mayfield Fellows Program (MFP). This nine-month, work/study experience is designed to develop a theoretical and practical understanding of the techniques for growing technology companies. Enrollment is limited to a dozen outstanding Stanford undergraduate or co-terminal students from any disciplinary background.
MFP combines an intense sequence of courses on the management of technology ventures, a paid summer internship at a start-up company, and ongoing mentoring and networking activities. A short video about the program can be seen here: http://vimeo.com/100942447

STVP Sparks are short-term, extracurricular “pop-up classes” on a variety of topics related to entrepreneurship and innovation. Taught by Stanford adjunct faculty or a member of the local entrepreneurial community, each Spark consists of three night sessions, one night a week for three weeks. This makes Sparks an excellent way to expand your entrepreneurial mindset without adding course units
