Lauren Powell Jobs, Founder and Chair of the Emerson Collective, Speaking at ETL

Laurene Powell Jobs is an American business executive and the founder of Emerson Collective, which advocates for policies concerning education and immigration reform, social justice, and environmental conservation. She is also co-founder and President of the Board of College Track, which prepares disadvantaged high school students for college. Powell Jobs resides in Palo Alto, California with her three children. She controls the Steven P. Jobs Trust, now known as the Laurene Powell Jobs Trust, which owns around 130 to 140 million shares of stock or between 7 and 8 percent stake as the largest shareholder in The Walt Disney Company. As of 2014, she was ranked as the #29th most powerful woman in the world by Forbes.

European Entrepreneurship (ME421) Big Data Startups & Co-Working Spaces

Monday, March 2 | Stanford - Hewlett 201 | 4:30 PM

Session Seven of 'European Entrepreneurship @ Stanford Engineering' showcases another highly innovative and creative software startup out of Estonia that is a leader in the emerging planetary | oceanic big data sector. We also present our first co-working space venture, with operations in Berlin, Barcelona, Sofia and Hamburg; co-working spaces form an essential element of Europe's startup support services sector. Our Estonian government partner Enterprise Estonia - Silicon Valley will present a brief overview of Estonia's extensive innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystem around software | computing | security | eGovt.

Apply for BASES Challenge: $100,000 Startup Competition - Deadline Extended!

BASES Challenge is Stanford's oldest and largest student startup competition. Open to current undergraduates, graduate students, and Stanford alumni, BASES Challenge allows Stanford affiliates to enter their social enterprise, business, or product ideas into competition to compete for $100,000+ in funding.

Students who compete have the opportunity to network with investors and VCs, pitch and receive professional feedback, gain access to mentorship with experts in the industry, and immerse themselves in a community of others passionate about launching their own startups.

Past winners include Kiva, One Acre Fund, Boosted Boards, D.Light Design, and Samasource.

Work with the Innovation Center at Samsung

Samsung's Global Innovation Center and BASES are looking for Stanford students to collaborate with in our Technology Scouting program. In the scout project, students will have access to resources at Samsung to reach out to and evaluate innovative start-ups for investment, acquisition, or partnership.

Students will meet innovative startups and present a deal-proposal to Samsung at the end of the year.

Tomorrow: Info Session and Pitch Night for Spring Quarter Course CEE 246

Student teams interested in developing entrepreneurial businesses related to civil and environmental engineering should attend an informational session and pitch night for the course "Entrepreneurship in Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE 246).

CEE 246 is a team project-based course that guides students through the process of identifying opportunities, developing business plans and determining funding sources geared toward developing entrepreneurial businesses related to civil and environmental engineering. With support of industry mentors, the class culminates with presentations to industry experts and venture capitalists to mimic typical investor pitches. The goal is to provide students with the knowledge and network to realize their business idea.

Tomorrow's event starts at 5:15 p.m. and will be held in Y2E2 299. To apply to the course, please fill out this application.

You’re invited to T-Groups for Startups!

Anyone who leads a startup knows just how emotionally challenging it can be to manage and motivate a diverse, fast-growing team. While there’s no quick fix for all of these challenges, our T-Groups For Startups weekend will give entrepreneurial leaders like you a chance to raise your self-awareness and develop more effective interpersonal skills over the course of a single weekend. You'll get better at having hard conversations, giving feedback, and understanding the impact of your actions as a leader.

Our T-Group For Startups weekend is:
- open to any startup leader (founder, CEO, or anyone else who leads a team within a startup) from any size/stage of venture
- facilitated by two startup coaches who also facilitate T-Groups at the Stanford Business School
- the only T-Group weekend designed exclusively for startup leaders
