Dear all,

This Wednesday we will have a special double talk with two student's each reporting back on their recent field experiences. Carla Song and Jordan Powell have embarked on journeys across Utah and Mongolia respectively, under the supervision of Dr Ryan Tucker, and they will be sharing their stories on their respective fieldwork and research. Carla spent two weeks in Utah, focusing on the Kaiparowitz Formation where she had a four-day crash course on paleontological work, and spent the rest of her time learning important sedimentological field-skills. Jordan spent 2 months in the Gobi Desert, Mongolia where she similarly learned how to navigate a palaeontological quarry and honed important field-skills alike.

Note the the talk will take place on Wednesday 30 September 2026 from 13:10-14:00 in room 2036 of the Chamber of Mines Building, Ryneveld Street, Stellenbosch. Dear All

Unfortunately we will have to cancel the seminar talk tomorrow (30 September 2026) as one of the speakers has fallen ill. Apologies for the late notice on this. We will continue with the next seminar on 7 October by Prof Alakendra Roychoudhury with the title "Going down? The Kinetic Highs and Thermodynamic Lows of Benguela Silica"

Kind Regards
Matthew Mayne
