Dear All,
We are fortunate to currently be hosting visitors from the University of Patras in Greece. This allows us the opportunity to host a special departmental seminar this Friday at 1 pm in room 1004.
Bio and presentation overview:
Assoc. Prof. Petros
Koutsovitis (University of Patras, Department of Geology) specializes in the
fields of Geology, Petrology, Mineralogy, Geochemistry and CCS applications,
having conducted post-doctoral research in Greece and Austria (NKUA, UNIVIE,
CERTH and HSGME). He has actively participated in Horizon2020 and RFCS EU
funded projects. Dr Petros Koutsovitis has received the Ktenas award for his
published research in 2014 by the Academy of Athens.
The presentation entitled “Rodingites: The Unfamiliar Familiar” will focus on
unravelling the petrogenetic and metasomatic processes that lead to the
development of rodingites in ophiolitic complexes. Subduction mechanisms will
be discussed in the context of fluid activity that additionally contributes to
the serpentinization of the host mantle rocks. Emphasis will be placed on the
geochemical changes of the protoliths during rodingitization as a function of
local conditions.
We look forward to seeing you all there,
Bjorn
