Listen up, this is important. Senator Gittens is proposing an amendment
to the Virgin Islands law regarding the licensing of people to carry
firearms. This process is already very burdensome. His amendment
would require everyone seeking a license for a firearm to get
psychological testing.
Here are what I see to be the issues: The process for legal ownership is
already onerous, licensed gun owners haven't been a 'problem'
psychologically, it will increase the cost and difficulty making the
license process only available to those who are well off financially,
and the very most important aspect is that it will discourage people
from seeking treatment.
Maybe you are a returning vet dealing with minor PTSD, or maybe you are
feeling depressed over the death of a loved one and want to see a
professional. If doing so could disqualify you from gun ownership, you
may forgo
this treatment.

More information on the bill can be found
here:http://www.legvi.org/vilegsearch/Detail.aspx?docentry=20576

Please. Take a minute and write Senator Gittens a POLITE email
expressing how you feel about this proposed amendment. People, I've been
fighting gun control for over 2 decades and the way to do it
is by writting and calling your representative. It works. And it takes
just a couple of minutes.

Don't put it off. Take the time right now to send the email. You can
even cut and paste some of what I've written above.

And pass this on to other like minded people. There are somewhere around
6000 licensed gun owners in the territory. If we all spoke with one
voice we can command the senate's attention.
So. Write right now! Pass this on and let's get this shut down now!

Best,
Peter Burlingame

Thanks for the "kick in the backside" Peter.  This is a very good idea.  I'd heard about this proposal before and still couldn't rationally think of what my "response" should be.  This is a very good letter and I hope that everyone in this Group takes your suggestion and sends a POLITE letter letting the Senator know that is idea is flawed.   If someone knows the phone number and/or email please share it with everyone else.  If no one has it as yet, I will look up the phone number and email and share with everyone tomorrow.  Thanks again!

Hi Peter,

Just a quick note and info for you. I have read from a posting from NSSF that there is an Executive Presidential Order sign by Obama that any Vet. clamming to have PTSD or HAS BEEN WONDED in combat or while serving is no longer allowed to own a firearm. I have been told UNOFFICIALLY (by an ATF agent this is true) that it will be on the new and upcoming 4473 as a yes or no question. (Wording yet to be figured out.) if you say yes on the form (which has to be filled out in order for an FFL to sell you a firearm.) The FFL can not by law sell you a firearm... I read that there is a class action law suite on the books by the NSSF for some Vets who have been told they can not own firearms for just these reasons...
I have not gotten anything in writing as of yet from the ATF. I sure hope I do not.....If you hear anything on this please let us know.

Clayton
