Sorry, I forgot the question :If the price is, indeed, $120-$130, will you come, and will you come with a guest or guests ( spouse, significant other, kids, whomever ) ?Jim Stergiou, FCAS, MAAA

Hi GuysI will re-explore other restaurants, including The Park, which is in the Meat Packing district, located on 18th street an 10th Avenue. However, I guarantee we will not find a place for the $30 pp charge you are seeking, Bob.By the way, The Water Club ( on The Easr River and 38th st ), which, like The Sequoia, has hosted Stuyvesant Reunions in the past, is more expensive than The Sequoia ( at The South St Seaport ).I would like everyone to chime in asap :a) Would you like to have a dinner / dance ?b) What is the maximum you would be willing to spend ?c) Is Oct 20 a good date ?d) Would you commit to coming ( preferably, with spouses, as it is a Saturday night ) ?Please let me know asap !!!Jim, The StergJim Stergiou, FCAS, MAAA

--I think “cheap” in not what we’re looking for, maybe something more reasonable for the not-so-wealthy. I can accept whatever is appropriate and I like the seaport area too. It’s not far from Chinatown, etc. It sounds like we’re booking the “place” for the whole evening and I agree that a buffet (with DJ) is better than a sit-down meal. Any competitive bids for similar venues? Thanks for doing the work. It is much appreciated.-----Original Message-----

Subject: Re: [stuy-1967-reunion-announce:10] Class of 1967 Reunion Saturday, October 20, 2012Hi Guys
I am sure we can find someplace cheap, but, generally, you get what you pay for. If we all want to have just a meal, which would take an hour or, two, in a cheap restaurant, I can find one, but is that what we want ? I thought we'd use this as an opportunity to "make up" for 45 years, have the wives/sig.others come along, have 60s music, and have room to move around and do some mixing.
We could get a long table for a sit down dinner in a corner of a restaurant, but is that what we want ? If it is, OK, but I just thought we'd make a night ( or, even, a weekend ) of it, to re-connect, introduce our spouses to our classmates, followed by a next day tour of the new Stuy, after renewing and making new friendships the night before.
After ( and before ), the get together at my apartment on May 6, I reconnected with people I had not seen for 45 years, or NEVER really knew while at Stuy from 1963-67, and we've already made plans to get together socially in the weeks and months ahead. That was a big success, and the enthusiasm I saw was very heartening !!!
I just thought something more than a $30 sit down dinner would generate that type of re kindling of friendship. Besides, this IS NYC and things are more costly than they are upstate.
Having a buffet dinner, where we all mill around, at a nice place, which we would not share with others, dance to the music of the 60s, show our wives/sig. others a good time, make new friends or renew with old friends, would be good.
However, I am VERY sensitive to costs and also to those who believe they cannot afford that type of party.
Please let me know !!! Asap !!!
I will do whatever the Committee wishes, but we need to decide, as the restaurant cannot keep the Oct 20 date open for a lot longer.
Best regards to all and to all your families.

A meal should cost not more than $25-$30 plus drinks like it does in Little Italy or Chinatown. If we have 60 attendees (probably more) the DJ cost is $10 apiece (or less). What other “expenses” are there? I have to admit I never had to research more than that. Does the restaurant charge us 2 or 3 times the meal price? Can we take home a “doggie bag”? (Ha, ha!)Regards,Bob M. (Self-employed “cheep-skate” from upstate NY) J-----Original Message-----

Shall we do a cash bar ??? Shall we forget about this and just go to a restaurant ? I thought, hey, it's once every 45 years, we can bring our wives/significant others, and have a ball. However, whatever you all want would be A OK with me.What is the maximum you all would feel OK with ? We can go from there.JimJim Stergiou, FCAS, MAAA

Subject: [stuy-1967-reunion-announce:4] Class of 1967 Reunion Saturday, October 20, 2012Hi GuysHope all is well, my fellow alums. We are talking with The Sequoia Restaurant, regarding the site of our 45th ( !!! ) Reunion, and I want to get your final approval. The Sequoia located at the South Street Seaport, ( at Fulton St and the East River ), and I wanted to get the go ahead from the Committee as to thea) date, which is Saturday, October 20, running from about 6 PM till 10 PM ( or, 6:30PM-10:30 PM )b) having a dinner / dance with a DJ playing, mostly 60s and 70s music ( I've been in contact with a really good one, who did my wife's 60th birthday two years ago; his cost is $600 )c) likely cost of the event ( between $130-$140 pp, all inclusive). Please give me your input as to whether we should have an open bar, just soda with wine at each table ( I like that ), or a cash bar.I am working with Henry Grossberg, the head of our Alumni Association. He indicated that because of the Association's tax status, we will save some money on taxes. The other option is to have the event at The Water Club, located on the East River and 38th Street, but the only open date for that is Oct 27, and it is a bit more expensive, albeit somewhat more "elegant". However, Oct 27 starts to run into the holidays, so my efforts have been confined, mostly, to The Sequoia. Both places will have outdoor space available to us. I like the South Street Seaport area, as there is a lot to do there, and is an interesting locale, for many reasons. But, I am OK with whatever the Committee wants. Just say the word and I'm there with you guys !!!Best regards to all !!!Jim, The StergJim Stergiou, FCAS, MAAA
