Came across this article about stuttering and its association with genetics. Was an interesting read and I thought I'd share it with the group.

Hope everyone's having a great summer!

Thanks Sandeep.  This is interesting.  I don’t know of any stutterers in my family, but then I don’t know much about my father’s family.  Do any of the rest of you have stuttering relatives?

My grandmother had a stutter, my cousin has a stutter, my father has a severe stutter and now my 4 year old son is showing the early signs.
Um, yes I would say "no sh*t" when they say there is a genetic link!

You know when I first went to speech therapy when I was 5 or something, they asked if anyone in my family had a stutter.  Nobody to my knowledge has a stutter either which is interesting.

I spoke with Dr. Shelly Kraft, PhD, Wayne State University at the recent NSA national conference in Denver.   She told me that she plans to make a presentation to the NSA convention next year (probably July) at Scottsdale, AZ.   I am planning to attend specifically for this presentation.

I did a survey years ago for Cathy Otto in New York (some of you knew of her speech center there), and if I recall correctly something like half of the respondents knew of one relative in their families who stuttered (my father stuttered).

My father, Grady G., born 1901, stuttered in my expert opinion.
... A Box surnamed cousin had a different memory.
His speech was void of involuntary block; but, his speech pattern was unusual / abnormal.
What we 21st century stutterers call:  circumlocution,
