Goodness, I didn’t realize how hard it would be for me to define these terms. Well, to continue to build from last week, I think both belief and faith come from God and he choses who to keep asleep and who to wake up. For example, I believe Jesus Christ died on the cross and have faith he will come back some day but this is only because God chose for me to accept this. And I think this is why Jesus says to his disciples in John 6:65, “That is why I said that people cant come to me unless the Father gives them to me.” Biblically, I think belief is simply believing in the one God has sent. And I think faith means we trust crazy things Jesus says to us, like being claim when we are afraid because he is here or accepting his truth even when it is hard to accept or hard to understand. When Jesus says insane things like human effort accomplishes nothing, we have faith that our God is mightier than us, completely sovereign, and so much better than we will ever be. Since that contradicts just about everything from this world, we have faith that his words are true. I love in Revelation 21 when it says there will be no more sorrow, no more tears or pain and God will be with us. Having faith means trusting God will honor his promises, even though this is not the case at the time being.

Traditionally I think the words belief and faith are really bound by religion and automatically thrown into that category, which actually kinda sucks because these beautiful terms are so easily thrown around with little to no understanding. Which I am so guilty of because they are such lovely words, who wouldn’t want to use them?

Here is some of the scripture to just tie it all up!

Jesus told them, “This is the only work God wants from you: Believe in the one he has sent.” John 6:29

Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty again.

“For it is my Father’s will that all who see his Son and believe in him should have eternal life. I will raise them up at the last day.” John 6:40
