I know this group hasn't seen much activity in a long time, but anyone still listening might be interested in this Coursera course:

Introduction to Systematic Program Design - Part 1 by Gregor Kiczales
"No textbook is required, but the second edition of How to Design Programs, by Felleisen, Findler, Flatt and Krishnamurthi is valuable supplementary reading; the book is available online at no cost."

It starts June 3rd but there is already content to digest in the site.  Enrollment is free.
