to Study at MESPOM
Hello,

I am interested in applying for the MESPOM course and understand that
successful candidates must have a good first degree in a subject
related to environmental sciences, policy and management such as
biology, geography, other earth sciences, civil engineering, urban or
landscape planning, resource economics or specialised disciplines
(environmental engineering, environmental management, environmental
economics, environmental policy).

I have an Honours degree in Law and have worked in a law firm for 6+
years as a paralegal. Can someone please advise me as to the
following:-

i. what are my chances in getting admitted for the MESPOM course and;
ii. Would it be difficult for me to follow the curriculum or should I
do a short course on environmental sciences before starting the
Masters course to have an edge with the rest of the cohort?

Thanks and best regards,
Val

i. We do have people with no environmental background although they are a minority in the course. It's hard to evaluate your chances - we would need to see your CV and read your explanation of why you are interested in environmental issues. If there is a credible commitment to the environment and reasonable prospects for a good environmental career as well as we can see the ability to follow the curriculum - the chances are higher

ii. It might be challenging for you to follow the curriculum although we had lawyers doing brilliantly in all parts of the course, including science, in the past. I would not invest in enrolling into an environmental course before getting confirmed admission. At that stage you could ask our advice on how to prepare for your studies.

Kind regards,

Aleh
