Some updates will fail if a particular service is not set to its default value or disabled. At this time, it is best for you to ensure that all services are set to the default values before updating your system. Windows Vista Default Service Registry Patches are online.

PS: don't install your service in any of the Windows systems folder. They should be regarded as Windows private folders. Unless you have very, very good reasons to write there (i.e. drivers), you should never install software there. Install it in your application folders.
In addition to the accepted answer I'd just like to make it easier for people to use Luigi Sandon's service library (thank you very much!). After downloading the script you'll need to add a [Code] section similar to the following to your setup script:
Unfortunately I couldn't figure out if there was a way to use the # VarName emit syntax in the [Code] section, which is why I declared the service name etc. as constants there as well as #define's at the top of the file. The answers here are useful if the constant you want is one of the [Setup] section's settings, but as you can't arbitrarily add things to that section this doesn't work for all things you might want to define constants for.
I wanted to remind folks that as of today July 12th, Windows Vista Service Pack 1 is no longer supported. We recommend folks look at upgrading to Windows 7 which is the fastest selling operating system in history selling over 400 million licenses to-date. Windows Vista users can also use Windows Update to update their PC to the latest service pack available which is Service Pack 2 (SP2). Visit this end of support page on Windows.com to learn more about how to ensure your PC is on the latest service pack.
In more technical terms, Identity field values are not reflected inrecord sets after installation of the service pack. This may cause dataloss in Microsoft Dynamics RMS databases that may not be apparent to theuser.
The Exploit Database is maintained by OffSec, an information security training company that provides various Information Security Certifications as well as high end penetration testing services. The Exploit Database is a non-profit project that is provided as a public service by OffSec.

Vista held the promise of a revamped user experience, including new Windows features such as transparent windows (Aero), Backup and Restore Center, Windows Performance Center, and security enhancements like BitLocker. On the management side, Windows Deployment Services and WIM based images were new with Vista, which were developed to help IT departments more easily push uniform images to all the PCs they manage.
What's your take on Vista end of service on April 11th, 2017? Are you going to have to migrate machines over or are you in the clear? Or will you take this opportunity to finally convince your boss you need the resources to upgrade the laptops/desktops still running Windows XP? Let us know in the comments!
Except for that, all our PCs are windows 7, 8 and a spattering of 10 (mostly on directors and sales laptops). I orchestrated a big organised push to get rid of all XP and Vista machines just after i started in my current role, before it became a bigger issue.
2. Now go to Services & Application -> Services. Alternatively you can directly open services window using services.msc command in RUN or Start Menu search box.
3. Now you can turn any unwanted service off to speedup your system. To disable or Set a service to MANUAL, double-click on the desired service and select the appropriate option in Startup list box.
NOTE: Always set the service to MANUAL, never disable it. So that whenever windows needs to start a service it can easily start and use it. If you set any service to DISABLED, then windows will not be able to start it and will give ERROR.
In early 2008, Microsoft released the first service pack for Windows Vista, which was also released to the public as a Service Pack for the RTM build. This is the first version of Windows to support UEFI firmware for 64-bit versions. It also added support for the exFAT file system, improved performance and stability, and improved wireless support. As well, The Search link on the right pane of the Start menu and the Search option in contextual menus for Windows Explorer folders have been removed.
In May 2009, Microsoft released the second and last service pack for Windows Vista, which includes various new features such as wireless and Bluetooth support; most notably, a Bluetooth Control Panel applet; it also includes Windows Search 4.0 built-in, better support of eSATA drives, support for burning on Blu-ray discs and support for the x64 VIA Nano processor, and also improved performance of the RSS feeds sidebar gadget, and improved streaming high-definition content. Service Pack 2 is slightly different, in that it needs at least Service Pack 1 to have been installed, in order to update a live OS. Another update, known as the Platform Update for Windows Vista, was released in October 2009, and includes the Windows Automation API and the Windows Ribbon API. Service Pack 2 is the last update for Windows Vista before being replaced with Windows 7.
Intel CPUs whose microarchitectures are based on Haswell or later are not supported on Windows Vista.[8] Numerous issues relating to certain services or applications failing to start on the affected CPUs have been reported by various users, with extreme cases often leading to potential bugchecks.[9] The KB4493471 update contains a new version of the HAL (hardware abstraction layer) that fixes most of these issues.
