Good afternoon and welcome to this week’s newsletter with a round-up of events from our Senior Awards and Events Producer Claudia Merhej.
The film and TV industry still has many roles where women are underrepresented, and that is particularly stark in post production. Today we are delighted to announce the launch of a brand new WFTV award which spotlights new female talent in post production. The Elouise Carden Rising Star Award for Post Production is an award which recognises outstanding work by an early career woman working in post production.
Nominees are required to have worked in the industry for up to four years and have made a real impact on colleagues and/or clients. The award recognises someone who consistently goes above and beyond the expectations of the role and shows a genuine curiosity and passion for post production. Submissions are open to female runners, audio assistants, assistant online editors, junior post producers, post production assistants and post production bookings, junior post production engineers, machine room assistants, and VFX assistants.
The winner of this award will receive a £2,000 bursary which can be used for training, professional development and equipment to further their career in post.
Elouise Carden, who sadly passed away in 2020 was the joint Managing Director and Co-Owner of both Rapid Pictures and Radiant Post Production. Elouise was passionate about nurturing new talent in our industry, and in particular women working in post production. This award is in honour of Elouise and will continue the work she started. It's free to nominate your post production rising star - for more details on how to submit a nomination click here. The new award will be presented at the WFTV Summer Party. Submissions for our annual WFTV Awards will open in May.
Last night, the BAFTA TV Craft Award winners were announced and we’d like to congratulate all the winners and nominees for their achievements.
We are thrilled that WFTV Board Member Cherylee Houston and her Co-Founder Melissa Johns were awarded with the TV Craft Special Award for their outstanding work with Triple C – an organisation which helps deaf, disabled and neurodiverse people access the arts and media.
Congratulations also to the brilliant We are Lady Parts team – Nida Manzoor who won for Best Writer, Comedy, PC Williams for Costume Design, and Aisha Bywaters who won for Scripted Casting. Sarah Brewerton won for Editing, Fiction for her work on It’s a Sin, Kayleigh Llewellyn for her writing on In My Skin and Cristina Casali for her production design as part of the team on Landscapers. And finally congratulations to Sara Gower for her work in Hair and Make-Up on The Witcher and Jet Omoshebi for her work as part of the special, visual and graphic effects team also on The Witcher.
This years nominations were the subject of debate and discussion due to the lack of women nominated, particularly in the directing categories – WFTV are in conversation with BAFTA about practical solutions to bring about change.
Have a good week,
Katie and Liz.
