A note on writing communities:
|
|
Dearest reader,
The writing life can be lonely at times. Artists tend towards solitude, and perhaps it is this isolation that gives rise to the trope of ‘writing as torture’, discussed by Magnus Rena in our December / January issue earlier this year.
But the writing life need not be so grim. Philip Larkin, recalling his early friendship with Kingsley Amis, spoke of the importance of mutual support for writers early in their career: ‘Encouragement is very necessary to a young writer.’
In case you are lacking in such encouragement, our membership scheme allows you to be part of one of the world’s longest-running literary communities and to receive one-on-one editorial feedback and guidance from The London Magazine team.
‘It has been lovely’, one member said, ‘to have events to attend with like-minded people’:
I have always felt welcomed and it’s like being part of a literary family. The editorial feedback sessions have given me amazing insights into my work, which I am using when redrafting.
As well as editorial feedback, members also receive:
-
A one-year print and digital subscription to the magazine.
-
The signature TLM tote bag, featuring writers from The London Magazine archive, including Larkin.
-
Salon-style drop-ins with editors of the magazine, hosted at venues across London.
-
20% discount on all purchases from our shop.
-
10% discount on writing retreats at The Mill, France.
-
Invitations to private events, readings and parties.
-
Your name printed in the magazine in recognition of your support.
