A force of creative brilliance, Heather Martin is an award-recognised playwright, dramaturg, and director originally from Australia, now based in Belfast. Her work has reached international stages, with seven productions across Australia, Ireland, England, and Switzerland—marking her as a bold and distinctive voice in contemporary theatre.
Her debut play The Book of David premiered in 2015, earning a shortlist for Queensland Theatre’s Young Playwright of the Year Award in 2016, and was later published by Australian Plays Transform. In 2022, she made her professional theatre debut with The Initiation of Tommy Wilson, which played to sold-out audiences at BackDock Arts in Brisbane.
Her recent work As We Drift, was developed through Amadan Ensemble’s MANIFEST residency, Outbursts Brewing Showcase and as part of Scene + Heard Festival of New Work 2026.
Heather is also the founder of Belfast Playwrights where she has showcased her desire to support local artists and in this role continues to inspire and champion new voices in theatre.
