Nicholas Allen In Conversation with
Neil Hegarty and music by Iarla Ó Lionáird
Join us on Saturday 28th February at 7.30pm for an evening of conversation and music with Neil Hegarty and Iarla Ó Lionáird to celebrate the publication of Nicholas Allen’s Late Heaney.
Late Heaney follows Seamus Heaney through the landscapes, friendships and events that shaped his last four collections, The Spirit Level, Electric Light, District and Circle, and Human Chain, all set in conversation with his work at large. Heaney's later life was a time of transformative change and achievement. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1995, after which he became a writer of global standing. This book grounds that experience in the history and geography of the places he wrote about, with an eye to the artists who influenced him and the people he knew. It is published by Oxford University Press.
Neil Hegarty is a novelist, writer and reviewer. He grew up in Derry and now lives in Dublin, and is one of Ireland’s leading literary voices.
The evening will be made all the more memorable with the inclusion of Iarla Ó Lionáird, the renowned sean-nós singer and instrumentalist. Iarla is widely celebrated as a member of the Irish-American supergroup The Gloaming, as well as for his distinguished solo career. In recent years, he has also brought his extraordinary talent to the world of film. He appeared in the screen adaptation of Brooklyn by Colm Tóibín, and last year, for the Oscar-nominated Sinners, he arranged the version of 'Rocky Road to Dublin' performed by actor Jack O'Connell and contributed the haunting sean-nós vocals to the film's opening sequence. Don't miss this special opportunity to hear Iarla perform live in the Helicon!
