Join us in celebrating International Women's Day with this brilliant debut feature from acclaimed documentary maker Sandhya Suri with Shahana Goswami in the lead role as newly widowed Santosh who inherits her husband's job as a police constable in the rural badlands of Northern India. When a girl's body is found, she's pulled into the investigation under the wing of charismatic feminist inspector Sharma. Essentially a film about a divided society seen through the inexperienced but determined Santosh Saini as she persues the case.
The Central Board of Film Certification banned the film in India due to it's protrayal of Islamaphobia, police violence and misogyny. Despite this Santosh was the UK's Academy Award entry for Best International Film and was BAFTA nominated.
