Dear Friend of the Hub,
As we move into the summer months, we’re delighted to highlight a range of opportunities and activity across the network. Our bursary scheme remains open for members seeking support to access training or to attend industry events/film festivals, and we encourage you to make the most of it.
Good luck to all our Newry and Mourne members as the the Spotlight Festival begins tomorrow. The festival highlights all our brilliant members from the region, celebrating all the great work that they and the indefatigable Rob Manley from Newcastle Community Cinema, have delivered in the last three years.
Check out all the screenings here.
The Spotlight project is moving to Derry and the North West led by the Nerve Centre. We'll have news on all their plans soon.
We’re also looking ahead to Docs Ireland next month and, building on the success of the No Ordinary Heist Collective tour, beginning to shape some fun plans to coincide with Belfast hosting the Fleadh Cheoil in August.
We'll share more on all of this at our online members meeting so make sure to sign up.
As always, we’re here if you need anything.
All the best,
Film Hub NI

BFI FAN Screen Heritage Toolkit 2026 – Demystifying Catalogues
As part of our BFI FAN Champion work, Film Hub NI have been working with Andy Robson to develop resources to help FAN members engage with film archive, developing new and diverse audiences.
This year, FHNI have been looking at the archive catalogue and how, as the first port of call for many exhibitors, it can sometimes be a challenging process for exhibitors to find the material they are looking for. Terms can be obsolete or archaic and material that is of interest can often go unrecorded by the original cataloguers. In developing diverse audiences, navigating catalogues is an important skill, and we hope these resources will help exhibitors' in their programming work.
Chaired by Hugh Odling-Smee and Andy Robson, FHNI invited three representatives from the BFI funded projects for a conversation on the respective projects’ outputs, findings and insights.

Marketing and Campaigns to connect with working class audiences
Film Hub Wales is hosting a new webinar with Laura Burch of Work & Class on Wednesday 17 June at 1pm.
The focus is on the importance of building campaigns that are class-inclusive and ensuring they aren’t unintentionally excluding, deterring or not reaching working class people. To me, this is as valuable as place-based ‘on the ground’ work and the various initiatives in place to make cinema-going more affordable and accessible when it comes to socioeconomic inclusion. Exhibitors can be doing all the ‘right’ things, but if people feel they aren’t welcome, that programmes aren’t relevant, or don’t even know they exist, the reach of all that good work can be quite limited
