| | | Wishing you a very Happy New Year! Come visit us to view the spectacular Dublin Winter Lights animated display created by the talented students of NCAD's Moving Image Design programme in partnership with Dublin City Council and the Embassy of France in Ireland.
The work of the students is in response to the themes of 'reimagine and regenerate,' chosen to reflect our refurbishment period as part of the Parnell Square Cultural Quarter project. Read more about the competition and the two selected winners from NCAD, Mya Byrne Archbold and Milana Sabanina, as well as their designs here.
The animated designs will be on view until mid March. Come along and see some of the wonderful works from the collection featured, including The Eve of St Agnes by Harry Clarke and Suzanne Walking in Leather Skirt by Julian Opie (images below).
Be sure to plan a visit between January 30 and February 2, when we will have a specially commissioned projection on display celebrating the Celtic goddess Brigit as part of Brigit: Dublin City Celebrating Women in partnership with Dublin City Council. Read more here.

Art Appreciation Course - Sir Hugh Lane and the London Art Scene Thursdays 29 January – 5 March 2026, 2.30pm - 4.30pm including a break. This six week online art appreciation course led by Jessica Fahy will explore the London art scene during the early 20th century and the many Irish connections. We will look at the fascinating developments in art instigated by groups including the New English Art Club, which included William Orpen as a member and the Bloomsbury group of artists.
We will delve into Hugh Lane’s career as an art dealer and as a promoter of Irish art with, for example, the 1904 Guildhall exhibition. Irish artists studying, living and working in London in the early years of the twentieth century will be discussed including John Lavery, Mainie Jellett, Evie Hone, Paul Henry, the Yeats family, Norah McGuinness and many more.
This six part art appreciation course will be taking place entirely online via Zoom and a Meeting ID will be sent in advance closer to the time to all enrolled. Links to recordings of the talks will be sent to all those enrolled so you can watch the illustrated talks again at your leisure. | HLG Offsite Coffee Conversations - Dominick St Community Centre, D1. Fee: €5 (including tea/coffee) - Wednesdays, 10:30am.
Our popular series of illustrated art talks exploring artworks from our collection delivered by our expert lecturers are taking place in person on Wednesdays at 10.30am in Dominick St Community Centre, D1. This January subjects include Circus Clown by Barbara Warren and an exploration of stained glass art in north Dublin. Our Dublin and Art offsite lectures series in public libraries throughout the city and delivered by our expert lecturers are continuing on Thursdays from January to April. These very well received talks explore how artists have been inspired by the people and places of Dublin city from the 19th century to the present day, as well as highlighting significant and influential artistic events that have occurred during this period. HLG Offsite Basic Talks @ TU Dublin, Grangegorman, D7. Free - Friday 30 January, 1.15pm.
We are delighted to have the Basic Talks series hosted by the TU Dublin School of Art & Design, Grangegorman, Dublin 7 as part of our offsite education programmes. This month's Basic Talk is by Malone-Murphy, an artist from Co. Wicklow, who examines the histories of land use and ownership through the lens of grief. By positioning grief as a catalyst for an urgent rethinking of our attachments to place and to one another, he aims to carve out more generous epistemologies of grief and landscape. We are delighted to continue our partnership with City Connects, a pilot government programme in the North East Inner City (NEIC) area. The aim of City Connects is to ensure that each and every student receives all the services and resources they need in order to succeed and thrive.
Our Art in the Classroom programme with all of the 10 primary schools in the NEIC area sees professional artists from our panel lead creative engagements for children in their classroom.
We are delighted to be linking in with Charleville Mall library where artists are leading our weekly Art Aficionados After School Art Club workshops with children from the NEIC area.
The Art of Belonging is a new series with post-primary students that sees artists lead creative engagements in secondary schools in the north east inner city, Marino and Kings Inn St.

VTS Neighbourhood Schools Project
We are delighted to be collaborating with artist Claire Halpin in the VTS Neighbourhood Schools as part of our HLG offsite Explore & Learn programmes.Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS) is an educational curriculum and teaching method which is designed to enable students to develop aesthetic and language literacy and critical thinking skills. VTS Neighbourhood Schools developed as a community wide arts in education initiative to support the development of NEIC/North East Inner City community of schools and children through Visual Thinking Strategies in collaboration with DCC Arts Office, The Lab Gallery and Hugh Lane Gallery.
