We’re delighted to announce that applications are now open for the 2026 Julie Burnell Scholarship: WFTV Production Management Programme, supported by the ScreenSkills High-end TV Skills Fund. Now in its second year, this scholarship offers specialised development opportunities to women based in the North of England who are working in production management or line producing roles, particularly those from lower socio-economic and underrepresented backgrounds.
The programme will support four selected participants, providing a unique opportunity to accelerate their careers and develop as future industry leaders. The initiative honours the legacy of Julie Burnell, former Head of Production for Drama at ITV Studios, who was widely respected for her work and her commitment to supporting female talent in the industry. Lesbian and sapphic films continue to face structural challenges across production, distribution, visibility and monetisation. While audiences exist and filmmakers are creating powerful work, too many films remain difficult to find, short lived, or financially unsustainable. In 2026, SapphicIFF is leading a major research initiative designed to better understand these challenges and help drive meaningful, long term improvement across the sector. You can support the project by taking their survey.
