CHARACTER BRIEFS:

MUM (ANITA) — Female, 35–45

Anita is our emotional anchor, grounding the advert in reality and warmth.

Character Essence:
She’s a modern Irish mum. Her personality is practical and emotionally intelligent. She’s orchestrating a moment for her kids without making a big show of it.

Performance Qualities:

  • Naturalistic, observational acting style
  • Able to hold sincerity without tipping into sentimentality
  • Subtle humour through her reactions, not delivery
  • Can land lines that feel genuine in both readings (dog/TV)

Final Notes:

  • Anita should feel like a real person you’d meet in the supermarket, not overly polished
  • Be comfortable with improvisation and overlapping dialogue

GRANDAD (JOE) — Male, 70–80

Granddad’s Role:
Joe is our tonal bridge in that he helps sell the misdirect and delivers the key line.

Character Essence:
He’s playful, slightly mischievous, young at heart. More like an ally to the kids than an authority figure.

Performance Qualities:

  • Strong presence with minimal effort
  • Feels like he has a rich life beyond the script
  • He’s got a natural storyteller energy
  • A subtle constant glint in his eye

Final Note:

  • Should feel warm, unpredictable, and authentic

SON (BOB) — Male, 9–11

Character Essence:
Sports-loving Bob is the slightly unlucky kid. Earnest, hopeful, and always trying his best.

Performance Qualities:

  • Takes things seriously, his humour coming from sincerity
  • A kid who thinks before speaking.
  • He has an unfiltered honesty

HANNAH — Female, 6–8

Character Essence:
Hannah is the wildcard. She’s Imaginative, slightly in her own world, quietly observant. Sweet but not overly cute. She has a wonderful off-beat charm.

Performance Qualities:

  • Natural, unforced presence
  • Feels like she’s thinking her own thoughts
  • Expressive but not precocious

CURRYS EXPERT — Any gender, 25–55

The bridge between our worlds. They ground the in-store moment while lightly elevating the humour.

Character Essence:
Warm, knowledgeable, approachable. Someone you trust instantly when making a purchase.

  • Calm, reassuring presence
  • Able to play sincerity with a hint of subtle awareness
  • Treats everything as completely normal
