Dear ,
We want to say a massive thank you to all the directors, friends, and partners who made it to our Annual General Meeting on Friday, 26th of June 2026.
Thanks for your invaluable help in making the day such a great success. Your support and participation were crucial in bringing the event to life, and we truly couldn't have done it without you.
Our Chair, Ruth Meehan, set out the vision of the Guild and our new Executive Director, Martina Durac spoke about the intention to develop robust policies and plans that take into account the new challenges and changing media landscape world-wide.
It was fantastic to celebrate the incredible talent in our community and catch up with you all.
Thanks again for a brilliant day!
Warmest regards, Board of SDGI |

FERA Presentation
Julie Belgrado, CEO of FERA, outlined the Federation’s mission and the current European policy landscape. With Ireland taking over the Presidency of the Council of the EU on July 1st, Julie highlighted the crucial role Irish ministers will play in upcoming negotiations on AI, copyright, and the 2028–2034 funding programmes.
Key updates included FERA’s active advocacy for the "Agora EU" programme to secure direct funding for directors’ residencies and peer learning rather than routing all funds through producers, alongside a pressing discussion on the rise of "soft censorship" affecting artistic freedom across shifting political landscapes in Europe. |

Member Open discussion
Mia Mullarkey led an invigorating session designed to gauge members’ priorities regarding creative rights and fair pay. The discussion highlighted a pressing need for directors to have better access to independent legal support at the contract stage, as many feel somewhat exposed navigating complex legal frameworks without the resources available to production companies.
The Guild will now establish a volunteer working group to translate these discussions into core policy points. If you are interested in being part of the working group, please get in touch with the Guild or Mia.

Arri Alexa Take
We had a fantastic look at work from the ARRI ALEXA TAKE by directors Paul Webster, Róisín Loughrey, and Conor McMahon, who beautifully highlighted the power of peer mentorship.
Keep an eye out for a full screening of their work, coming up this autumn (September/October). |

Panel Discussion
At this year's AGM, we were thrilled to bring together a fantastic mix of established and debut Irish filmmakers, to dive into the strategic, practical, and creative sides of their latest work, and looking ahead at the new challenges facing feature drama and television today.
We wanted this day to be a true celebration of Irish and Irish-based directors, and an inspiration to everyone in the room. The panel was moderated by Martina Durac.
Huge thanks to Stephen Bradley, Aislinn Clarke, Adam O’Keeffe, and Marian Quinn for joining the panel and sharing their insights so generously! |
