Women in Film and TV Newsletter Banner
WELCOME FROM THE CEO
Good afternoon and welcome to this week’s newsletter with a round-up of upcoming events from our Head of Awards, Events and Partnerships Claudia Merhej.

Many thanks to our fantastic panellists and guests who took part in our Breaking the Class Ceiling panel in Manchester last week. The Proper Class podcast hosts actor Laura Checkley and theatre director Hannah Chissick chaired an inspiring discussion with some brilliant senior women reflected on how (with varying degrees of wit, determination and tenacity) they broke into the industry and have gone on to great success. The session was recorded as a podcast and will be available shortly.
I then hopped over to Newcastle with North of England Mentoring Producer Helen Bullough to host our networking drinks and meet indies, commissioners and North East Screen to spread the word about this year’s Four Nations Mentoring Scheme’s expansion into the North. Applications will be opening in the summer so if you’re based in the North we’d love you to apply.

We are delighted to bring back for the third year running The Elouise Carden Rising Star in Post Production Award in partnership with Radiant Post Production. This award recognises outstanding work by an early career woman working in post production. Women are still underrepresented in post production and this award shines a spotlight on brilliant new female talent.

The winner will be presented with an award and will also receive a £2,000 bursary which can be used for training, professional development and equipment to further her career in post production.

Above: Daniela Rotaru, junior colourist and winner of the Elouise Carden Rising Star Award in Post Production 2023
This award is in honour of Elouise Carden, who sadly passed away in 2020. Elouise was the joint Managing Director and Co-Owner of both Radiant Post Production and Rapid Pictures and was passionate about nurturing new talent in our industry, and in particular women working in post production. If you know any rising stars in post production please nominate them here. It’s free to enter and very straightforward – shout about the brilliant talent you know!
And finally, if you’d like to gift the women in your company a WFTV membership we offer corporate memberships for 10 or more staff members at a reduced rate – it’s a great way to support your employees and plug them in to a whole host of benefits, including networking sessions, professional development opportunities and more. Contact us at ad...@wftv.org.uk for further information.

Wishing you all a Happy Easter,

Katie

WFTV EVENTS ROUND UP
Claudia Merhej | WFTV
Hello everyone,

For March’s Writers’ Group tonight, Christina Pickworth will be joined by Nicky Bentham, producer and Founder of Neon Films. Nicky will be sharing about her producing career so far, including her feature films Moon and The Duke, and her recent short film The After, nominated for this year’s Academy Awards, as well as what draws her to projects and how she works with writers.

On Tuesday 9 April, WFTV members are invited to a special in-person event with actor Melanie Lynskey. New Zealand born and Emmy Nominated actor Melanie Lynskey will discuss a number of her hit projects, including upcoming Sky Original The Tattooist of Auschwitz, adapted from the novel of the same name, and her role as author, Heather Morris. Following this exclusive Q&A, WFTV members will have the opportunity to watch the first episode of The Tattooist of Auschwitz.

Looking ahead, on Thursday 18 April WFTV invites members working in production management to the launch of an industry-facing report on production management in the UK’s TV industry, followed by socialising with fellow production managers and industry colleagues. As well as the opportunity to meet colleagues and make new connections, there will be a panel discussion which will address the report and its findings.

See you at an event soon,

Claudia
