The Monthly, Community Arts Partnership's online arts sector magazine, Poetry and Spoken Word edition, aims to highlight the work of local and international poets and spoken word artists. It provides an overview of the creative activities in the world of poetry, with an emphasis on community support and community activities.
Community Arts Partnership has been moving offices during December and early January. We have relocated to: 551-555 Lisburn Road, Belfast, BT97GQ and the New Arts Resource Centre has space for hire for conferences, meetings and workshops. We start off this March issue of The Monthly - Poetry and Spoken Word Edition showcasing local poet and musician Michelle Wooderson's Spoken Word Music piece, "Dandelion". Michelle's project goes under the name "Starlying" and we link to the interview we conducted with Michelle in a previous edition of The Monthly.
We then move into showcasing winners of the National Poetry Competition. We link to work of the 2025 winner, Partridge Boswell, the 2024 winner, Fiona Larkin, the 2023 winner, Imogen Wade and the 2022 winner, Lee Stockdale. We include a post highlighting the 2021 Seamus Heaney Award winner Jim McElroy's commendation for his poem, "Coming of Age".
We finish with an interview with Terrance Hayes the Seamus Heaney International Visiting Poetry Fellow at Queen’s.
So in this month's Poetry and Spoken Word edition, there is local as well as international poetry and spoken word to read about and listen to.
