Waterford International Film Festival Announces New Prize for Best Short Film

The Waterford International Film Festival is delighted to announce a new addition to its awards programme for its landmark 20th edition.

Beginning with the 2026 festival, the winner of Best Short Film—the festival's highest honour—will also receive The Tarkovski Grant, an international submission fee waiver package valued at over USD $500.
The Tarkovski Grant provides complimentary submissions to a network of more than 25 participating international film festivals, helping filmmakers continue their festival journey and bring their work to new audiences around the world.

As Ireland's first film festival to present The Tarkovski Grant, Waterford International Film Festival is proud to offer this additional opportunity to its Best Short Film winner.

Stephen Byrne, Creative Director of the Waterford International Film Festival, said:

"Supporting independent filmmakers has always been at the heart of our festival. As we celebrate our 20th edition, we're delighted to introduce The Tarkovski Grant as an additional prize for our Best Short Film winner. We'd like to sincerely thank Kris De Meester and The Tarkovski Grant team for making this opportunity available, and we look forward to celebrating our first recipient together this November."

Submissions are currently open for the 20th Waterford International Film Festival, with the Final Deadline on 14 August 2026.
