ADD TO THE RATE-SHARING DATABASE |
In recent years, layoffs have pushed more journalists into freelancing, with over a third now working independently, according to a 2023 study. Yet, there's little transparency around freelance rates. Freelancers often earn less than minimum wage, with significant pay gaps compared to staffers doing similar work. |
To address this, the Freelance Solidarity Project launched a year-long campaign encouraging freelancers to share their rates in its Rate Sharing Database. This initiative aims to build a clearer picture of freelance pay and, ultimately, change the way we are getting paid. |
