Dublin, 1997. Two friends prepare to compete for the crown of Alternative Miss Ireland with their Princess Diana drag act, under the nose of their hardline nationalist families.

As they race through the city towards competition night, Diana's death sparks the unravelling of their secret, their friendship and their plans to leave Ireland. A high-energy, fast-paced two-hander packed with comedy, courage and coming-of-age chaos.

Don’t Tell Dad About Diana returns to Bewley’s Café Theatre following sell-out runs at the Edinburgh and Dublin Fringe Festivals. Named one of Rolling Stone Magazine’s ‘10 Stand-Out Shows at the Edinburgh Fringe’, as well as Theatre Weekly’s ‘Best LGBTQ+ Show of Ed Fringe’  and winner of both the Bewley’s Little Gem and Fishamble New Writing Awards, this limited run is not to be missed.

‘Uplifting and unapologetically life-affirming, Don’t Tell Dad About Diana radiates from start to finish.  Just as Diana lives on in the hearts of the people, Power and Murray stake their rightful claim at the beating heart of this year’s Fringe’ ★★★★ The Skinny

First presented to great acclaim in 2010, Barry McKinley’s Elysium Nevada was nominated for the Irish Times Best New Play Award. Bewley’s Café Theatre is delighted to present this timely new production.

In a sun-blasted retirement home on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two ageing residents pass their days trading barbs, jokes and grievances as they wait for time to do what it always does. Their brittle comedy masks deeper fears about decline, memory and the approach of death. When a mysterious outsider joins them, the familiar rhythms of their banter begin to fracture, and what starts as a darkly comic portrait of old age shifts into something stranger, more unsettling — and unexpectedly moving.

‘a study in wizened, impotent rage, measured out in wicked one liners’ The Irish Times

‘it has a memorable conclusion, linking these fading characters to the heavy pulse of human history, at one of its defining moments’ The Scotsman

Set Design: Martin Cahill      Costume Design: Bairbre Ní Chaoimh     Lighting Design: Colm Maher      Sound Design: Ewan Cowley       Graphic Design: Gavin Doyle

Duration: 50 minutes
Age Guidance: 14+
