Dearest reader,
Last week, we hosted the first in our new series of poetry readings, Off the Page, at the Alice Black Gallery in Fitzrovia. The idea was simple: poets reading from memory, with generous breaks between each performance to give space to the work and to allow time for replenishing both drinks and energy.
The result, if we do say so ourselves, was something quite special. The success of the evening rested almost entirely on the quality of its readers, and for that we have Camille Ralphs, Declan Ryan, Dominic Leonard and Jo Bratten to thank – each delivering performances that were by turns funny and moving, all while undertaking the rather daunting task of recalling their own lines from memory.
