| Exhibitions, Performance, Workshops & more this November
We are excited to unveil a new exhibition Reverse Migration, a Poetic Journey by internationally renowned artist, poet, and activist Cecilia Vicuña (b. 1948, Santiago do Chile), opening on 7 Nov. This exhibition is inspired by Vicuña’s 2006 visit to Ireland where she honoured Ireland’s archaeological sites with rituals of gratitude following the discovery of her genetic ties to Ireland. This connection is a narrative thread within the exhibition, intertwining personal memory, indigenous traditions, and a dialogue with Irish heritage. Through her innovative synthesis of visual art, sound, and poetry, Vicuña offers a deeply moving reflection on the interwoven histories of humanity and nature.
November marks the final month to see the exhibition Sewing Fields by pioneering abstract artist Sam Gilliam. Emerging in the mid-1960s, his canonical ‘Drape’ paintings merged painting, sculpture, and performance in conversation with architecture in entirely new ways. The exhibition ends on Sunday 16 Nov.
Highlights in November include a unique dance performance, Moving Signatures, presented in collaboration with IMMA Horizons and CoisCeim Broadreach, in response to the exhibition IMMA Collection: Art as Agency on Sunday 16 Nov. IMMA Horizons also presents a free series of Art & Mindfulness Sensory Workshops throughout November. At the end of the month a free drop-in gallery talk, The Conservation Challenges of the IMMA Collection takes a behind the scenes look at art conservation on Wed 26 Nov at 1.15pm.
