Hi everyone
We are delighted to bring you a review opportunity from our client Bright Umbrella Theatre Company, who will open their new production of Ulster American by David Ireland at The Sanctuary Theatre in East Belfast this August.
This is the first professional production of the play to be staged in East Belfast, just across from the flat where David Ireland wrote part of the script.
Directed by Trevor Gill and starring James Boal, Caroline Curran and Andrew McClay, Ulster American is a biting black comedy that interrogates power, privilege and the performance of progressive values in the arts.
The story follows a Hollywood actor, a West End director and a Northern Irish playwright who meet the night before rehearsals begin. Their collaboration quickly unravels into confrontation, ideological conflict and shocking revelations.
Winner of the Carol Tambor Best of Edinburgh Award, the play has been praised for its satire and emotional intensity. This production brings the story home to East Belfast for a limited run.
Important Information
This production contains very strong language, graphic violence and references to sexual assault. Running time is 75 minutes with no interval.
