With just a day to go before The Winter Charity Careers & Volunteer Job Fair takes place at the Assembly Buildings Conference Centre in Belfast on Wednesday 5th November, organisations dedicated to supporting children, young people and families are coming together to showcase the life-changing opportunities available within Northern Ireland’s charity and voluntary sector.
Among those leading the way are Extern, Cancer Fund for Children and MACS Supporting Children and Young People, who are highlighting the importance of early intervention, care and community support.
MACS Supporting Children and Young People, a returning exhibitor, is Northern Ireland’s only youth-specific homelessness charity. It supports young people experiencing or at risk of homelessness and works with them to build brighter futures. Joanna Malone, Digital Executive at MACS, said the fair offers a unique opportunity for people to connect with meaningful work that changes lives.
“Whether you’re looking for a paid role, a volunteering opportunity, or simply want to find out more about the sector, it’s a fantastic space to explore what’s out there. At MACS, we’re always keen to meet people who care deeply about young people, who are kind, and who want to be part of something that genuinely changes lives.”
Cancer Fund for Children, a returning exhibitor, shares that same focus on helping families when they need it most. The charity provides practical, emotional and therapeutic support to children and families affected by cancer, ensuring that no child or parent faces their journey alone. Through its residential facility at Daisy Lodge and its services across Northern Ireland, the organisation offers a lifeline to families navigating some of the toughest times of their lives.
Also returning to the fair, Extern works with children, young people and families who are facing challenges that can feel overwhelming. Its teams deliver vital services across Northern Ireland, supporting young people in care, families in crisis and individuals affected by homelessness, mental health issues and substance use. The charity’s mission is to create safer communities and brighter futures by empowering people to make positive changes in their lives.
They will be joined by other youth and family-focused organisations including Barnardo’s, Girlguiding Ulster, and Saint Vincent de Paul, who each play a crucial role in supporting children and families across Northern Ireland.
Together, they form part of a line-up of more than 25 exhibitors confirmed for the fair, representing a wide range of causes including health, disability, volunteering, animal welfare, community development and environmental action. The event gives jobseekers and volunteers the chance to meet face to face with charities offering both paid and voluntary roles that make a genuine difference.
Richard Cherry, Co-founder of Charity Jobs NI, said the event is an opportunity to recognise the essential work being done to support children and families across Northern Ireland.
“We are proud to see so many organisations coming together to support children, young people and families through their work. These charities are helping to change lives every day and it is inspiring to see the commitment and compassion that exists across the sector. With more than 25 exhibitors confirmed, this fair is about connecting people who care with the opportunities that allow them to make an impact.”
Free to attend and open to everyone, The Winter Charity Careers & Volunteer Job Fair will take place on Wednesday 5th November from 10am to 2pm at the Assembly Buildings Conference Centre, Belfast.
