Stories of the Week: Contest #335

Welcome back to your weekly wrap-up of the Reedsy Prompts contest! This week’s tales are hot off the press, so settle in and check out our latest contest winner, the runners-up, and recent popular entries in your preferred genres below.

Also, don’t forget to like and comment on your favorites! Our authors work hard on their submissions every week — your support and feedback mean the world to them.

Winner 🏆

Wax/Off by Christopher C

Brace yourself for a heist gone gloriously wrong. As Dan tells Harry about what happened at the wax museum, don't forget to keep your eyes peeled for subtle clues — because not everything is what it seems...

💡 Inspired by the prompt: Write a story in which something doesn’t go according to plan.

📌 Why it won: This story was clever, witty, and absolutely hilarious! We found Dan and Harry’s dynamic and dialogue to be both convincing and engaging, and we especially loved hearing about the escalating chaos in the wax museum from Dan himself. The author managed to keep building the intrigue throughout and landed the plane with a really solid twist that made for a highly satisfying ending.

Runners-up 🏅

Filling In by Elizabeth Keane

In this bittersweet story, a grieving mother consults a psychic to show her the life her daughter never lived, unaware that events are already unfolding beyond her reach.

💡 Inspired by the prompt: Write a story that ends without answers or certainty.

The SSC by Liv Chocolate

Why do people fight their way through this story's mysterious labyrinth every evening? Can a person help mend a broken heart with a single egg? What even is the SSC? Find out all that and more in this shortlisted tale.

💡 Inspired by the prompt: Withhold a key detail or important fact, revealing it only at the very end.
