Join us for Bastille Day Ireland 2024! Expect Music, Films, competitions & more.
This year a special Film programme will run from 1-15 July in Dublin, Galway and online.

To mark France’s National Day, Bastille Day Ireland 2024 will offer a nationwide celebration with film screenings at partner venues, a festive gathering at The Church Bar & Restaurant in Dublin on Sunday 14th July, and an online programme featuring a movie and a competition with great prizes.

As we gear up for the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris, this year’s festivities will also highlight sport.

Presented in partnership with the French Embassy in Ireland, French Friday, LepetitJournal Dublin, and many generous sponsors.

Limerick Wild Geese Festival is back!

The Limerick Wild Geese Festival is a community-led non-profit annual event which commemorates the Flight of the Wild Geese and celebrates the longstanding friendship between Ireland and France. It was founded in 2019 by the Honorary Consul of France in Limerick with the support of the Limerick City & County Council and is now organised by Alliance Française Limerick, one of the city’s longest running organisation providing French language classes and holding cultural events since 1944.

The festival promotes intercultural understanding, education on local and international history, and artistic creation.

Bastille Day Ireland Film Programme

From July 1st to 15th, enjoy a series of free French film screenings in Dublin, Galway and online, presented by the French Embassy in association with Dublin City Council Libraries, the National Gallery of Ireland, Galway Libraries and the Galway City Museum.

Experience French cinema, language and culture with our selection of movies. The programme features contemporary films, many comedies and explores topics as diverse as sport, gastronomy, climate change, youth and equality.
All together 18 screenings to enjoy, including one movie to watch online!

French Artists at Waterford Walls International Street Art Festival
9-18 August 2024

Waterford Walls International Street Art Festival celebrates its 10th anniversary milestone this August 9th to18th 2024. 
 
This family friendly event will feature over 40 national and international street artists painting large scale mural artworks across Waterford City, along with a programme of events featuring music, panel talks, film screenings, artist discussions, street food, festival hub, craft beer, workshops and guided tours.
 
In long running partnership with the French Embassy, Waterford Walls is also proud to welcome three top artists from the French street art scene - Williann, Jean Rooble, and returning artist Claire Prouvost, who will be creating a sports themed mural in celebration of the Paris 2024 Olympic & Paralympic Games.

Women Impressionist Exhibition at National Gallery of Ireland

This summer, the National Gallery of Ireland celebrates the 150th anniversary of the first Impressionist exhibition in Paris with a special exhibition, Women Impressionists.
Explore the works of four revolutionary women in 19th-century art: Berthe Morisot (France), Eva Gonzalès (France), Marie Bracquemond (France), and Mary Cassatt.
These French artists, along with American-born Cassatt who lived most of her adult life in France, were integral to the Impressionist movement.  
Discover the contributions of these remarkable women to the art world and their deep connections to France and Paris.

French Films at Signal Summer Festival of Arts - Bray

The Signal Arts Centre presents their Summer Festival of Arts starting on 20th July with an evening filled with creativity and inspiration. This in-person event will showcase a variety of artistic talents, including French films, live music performances, comedy, spoken word and theatre pieces.

The French Embassy is delighted to partner on this showcase and fundraising initiative to support Signal Arts Centre in Bray (Co. Dublin).

Cork / Brittany 'Maritime' Residency Exchange Exhibition

‘Maritime’ is an artist-led residency exchange between Brittany, France, and Cork, Ireland. In May 2024, French artists Caroline Boyfield and Laure Colomer travelled to Cork for residencies at Sirius Arts Centre and Uillinn West Cork Arts Centre. Cork-based artists Rebecca Bradley and Ida Mitrani joined them, fostering creative exchange.

The Sample-Studios Project Space is now hosting a summer exhibition showcasing their work, with plans to tour to Brittany in 2025.

Alex Cecchetti at IMMA's new exhibition 'Take a Breath'

Take a Breath is a major new exhibition presented by the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) exploring the historical, social, political, and personal aspects of breathing. Featuring world renowned artists, the exhibition highlights the immersive fabric work, Medusa Mother, by Alex Cecchetti, a Paris and London-based artist, poet, and choreographer with a global exhibition record. Cecchetti will also take part in an Artists’ Conversation and perform live at the opening.

Temple Bar Gallery + Studios and Dublin Port Company present two captivating solo exhibitions, bringing a unique blend of Irish and French artistry to life.
Through a strong French connection - Yuri Pattison is an Irish artist living in Paris and Liliane Puthod is a French artist living in Ireland and a TBG+S studio artist - these exhibitions celebrate the dynamic relationship between Dublin's cityscape and its port, exploring themes of connectivity and impermanence through storytelling and a wide public engagement programme.

The GAZE International LGBTQIA Film Festival returns from August 1-5, 2024, at Light House Cinema and IFI. Don't miss Solo on August 2nd at 8:20pm, featuring French actor Félix Maritaud. Experience this captivating tale of drag, romance, and family.
Félix Maritaud is known for his powerful performances in queer cinema, notably in films like Sauvage directed by Camille Vidal-Naquet, and BPM (Beats Per Minute) by Robin Campillo and winner of the 2017 Cannes Film Festival Grand Prix and Best Film at the César Awards.

The 15th DiViPassion International Short Film Festival is coming to Ballina, Co. Mayo

DiViPassion aims to support self-made film, promote local cultures, and make video production accessible to all. FrancophonIA -  Prompt Battle in French for Secondary Schools

As part of the Festival de la Francophonie in Ireland and the Sommet de la Francophonie, which opens on 4 October 2024 at the Cité internationale de la langue française in Villers-Cotterêts, France, the network of Alliances Françaises in Ireland is organising a special event from March to October 2024 with the support of the French Embassy in Ireland and the Institut Français.
Students will have to produce a composition based on 1 of the 4 themes by proposing key words in French (prompt) in order to obtain, thanks to the artificial intelligence of the Playground text-to-image conversion software, a work illustrating the richness, diversity and modernity of the French-speaking world.
The entries will showcase both your creativity and your command of the French language!
