Welcome from Katie Bailiff, CEO of WFTV

Hi everyone,

The WFTV team are excited to announce that applications are now open for the 2027 Four Nations Mentoring Scheme. Now in its sixteenth year, the scheme has connected hundreds of women with wider networks that help sustain and develop their careers in film and television.

The workplace and the world is changing. Being a woman working in this industry requires more resilience than ever - and that's why it's never been more important to find support in likeminded communities. Witnessing the transformative nature of this scheme remains one of the most rewarding parts of my job - and I can't wait to meet the next group of women to join the fold.

Applications are now open: apply now or learn more about the scheme.

Our team are also hosting an online Q&A event next Monday 29 June to provide more information on how to apply and answer any questions you might have, you can sign-up here.

We're also delighted to share this film about just why our mentoring scheme is so special, lovingly made by WFTV member
Angelica Jopson. Watch the film now.

There's just one week to go. Nominations for the WFTV Awards 2026 close on Monday 29 June, so this is your last chance to shine a light on the women whose work has stayed with you this year.

Who is the director whose vision you couldn't stop thinking about? The producer who made the impossible look easy? The writer, executive, or craftswoman or who quietly went above and beyond? We want to know!

Nominating is free, takes just a few minutes, and is one of the simplest ways to celebrate the women shaping our industry. Don't leave it on your to-do list. Submit your nominations before Monday 29 June.

I’m thrilled to introduce this year’s cohort for the Julie Burnell Scholarship: WFTV Production Management Programme.

Our programme supports brilliant women working in production management and line producing across the North of England, helping them develop their careers, build new connections, and step confidently into leadership.

Congratulations to our 2026 cohort:
Sarah Smith, Hannah Stevenson, Kate Larking, Laura Trigg and, Liv Taylor. I’m looking forward to following your journey over the coming months!

It is my pleasure to welcome the commissioning team from LumoTV to WFTV for an insightful session on storytelling for deaf and sign language communities. As the world’s only sign language-led commissioning body, LumoTV is doing amazing work to champion authentic stories and create opportunities for deaf talent both on and off screen.

This is a rare chance to learn from commissioners about the projects they’re looking for, how they develop ideas, and what makes a pitch stand out.  I do hope you’ll join us in what will be an informative session on the importance of storytelling for the deaf community.

Have a great week.

Katie

Award-winning Funny Women founder Lynne Parker is marking her platinum birthday in the best possible way — with a special fundraising comedy night, The Glitter Project at London’s iconic Comedy Store on Tuesday, 30 June.

The Glitter Project is an event commemorating long-standing board member, Jo Fletcher-Cross who sadly died in April almost four years after being diagnosed with a brain tumour. Funny Women wants to ensure the future of Jo's legacy as funding for arts-based initiatives like this, particularly comedy-focused ones, is in short supply.

The show features some of the incredible business women from The Glitter Challenge and their professional comedian mentors. Learn more and book tickets below.
