The Monthly, Community Arts Partnership's online arts sector magazine, Poetry and Spoken Word edition, aims to highlight the work of local and international poets and spoken word artists. It provides an overview of the creative activities in the world of poetry, with an emphasis on community support and community activities.
Community Arts Partnership has been moving offices during December and early January. We have relocated to: 551-555 Lisburn Road, Belfast, BT97GQ and the New Arts Resource Centre has space for hire for conferences, meetings and workshops. You can contact Gordon on 02890923493 or you can email gor...@capartscentre.com.
Now we are settled in the new space we start off this February issue of The Monthly - Poetry and Spoken Word Edition showcasing local poet Angela Graham's new collection, "Exposure - war, media, democracy", a collection of 74 poems prompted by the work of journalists, documentarists and photographers in coverage of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the Israel / Gaza war, of parliamentary democracy and citizen activism, of the climate justice crisis and racism. We include here a review of the work from Nation Cymru by CJ Wagstaff. Adding to that we have a link to an interview Angela Graham gave a few years ago discussing her work as a poet.
We have links to the work of long-time favourite of this magazine, Belfast poet, Matthew Rice, whose new collection "Plastic" has been greeted with acclaim. There will be an interview with Matthew Rice in an upcoming edition but until then we link to a review of the new collection and where the collection can be purchased.
There is information about an upcoming open mic run by Colin Hassard, so in this month's Poetry and Spoken Word edition, there is plenty of local poetry and spoken word to read about and listen to.
