How to stand out when contacting literary agents and publishers.

Hi Stu,

What does it take to grab the attention of a literary agent or publisher? If you’re pursuing a traditional publishing deal, this is a question you might have asked yourself many times.

I’m excited to introduce two new workshops at Reedsy that will guide you through each step of crafting a query letter or book proposal — and show you how to stand out in a crowded inbox.

Book Proposals, Demystified

2-day workshop, $99 (or included with a Learning membership)

📅 April 7th & 9th

🕙 3-5pm EST

📺 Online (recordings available for 28 days)

How do you sell a book you haven’t written yet? For nonfiction authors pursuing traditional publishing, the answer is a compelling book proposal. In this two-day session, author Noah Charney breaks down every element — from your author bio to your outline and marketing plan — drawing on his own experience to show you what editors actually need to say yes.

Query with Confidence

2-day workshop, $99 (or included with a Learning membership)

📅 April 14th & 28th

🕙 3-5pm EST

📺 Online (recordings available for 28 days)

Your query letter is the first impression you make on a literary agent — and a great one can open the door to representation and a book deal. In this two-day workshop, editor Meg Toth walks you through each part of a query letter, from opening hook to closing sign-off, and shares strategies for finding and approaching the right agents. You’ll also have the chance to submit your own letter for live feedback.

The workshops will include live online teaching and the chance to ask questions of industry insiders who understand the writer's dilemma – and are looking to share the wisdom they’ve learned over the past decades.

By the end of these sessions, you’ll have the knowledge and confidence to contact your dream literary agent or publisher.

Happy querying,

Felicia, Head of Learning @ Reedsy
